Cultural Care Au Pair

One thing that I enjoyed about Cultural Care was how welcoming the community seemed throughout my stay. It is quite difficult to relocate to another country, but thanks to the aupair participants, I was able to settle very fast. My host parents respected my time and we had an open communication on any arising issue. Also, the chance to discover some cities close to the town where I was residing in my free time was really great. When asked what is an au pair, I would tell that being an aupair is both an employment and an opportunity to experience a new culture being a part of a family. Overall, my au pair USA experience was really good.

One of the things I liked about Cultural Care is that it was very supportive throughout my stay. Going to a different country can be daunting at times; however, meeting other aupair participants helped me get comfortable really fast. I liked the fact that my host parents respected my schedule, and we always talked whenever any issues occurred. Another thing I enjoyed is going to nearby cities whenever I had some free time. Whenever my friends ask me what is an au pair, I tell them that it's not only a job but also an opportunity to learn something new about the culture and become part of a family.

It was not an easy first month for me. It was difficult for me to adjust because I felt homesick, and I even wondered if becoming an au pair of USA was the right thing to do. There came a time when I sat alone in my room preparing to book a plane ticket to go back home. But the following morning, my host mom realized something is wrong with me and asked me for a coffee session. She encouraged me for almost two hours, telling me that adjustments take time. From there, everything became different for me. Gradually, I was able to build up my routine, make friends, and enjoy all of the adventures on weekends.

A year ago, I was at the airport with tears in my eyes thinking about whether I am making the biggest mistake of my life. Never before have I lived far from my family, and the idea of living in the U.S. via the Cultural Care au pair program seemed really frightening to me. In the first week, everything seemed strange to me – from food to daily activities with the kids. However, gradually the host family got me involved, even the children made a welcome card for me, which I now keep as a remembrance. If anyone will ask me about au pair definition, I will tell them that it's not just about childcare.

Initially, I had some doubts about whether au pair program will work for me, since it was quite scary to leave everything behind for a year. However, after discussion with some past participants, I took the decision to give it a try with Cultural Care, which turned out to be the best choice ever. Orientation made me prepared and the checkups of my local coordinator were quite timely. Being with kids was quite busy and challenging, but still interesting. I traveled during weekends, celebrated American holidays, and made lifelong friendships. For anyone thinking about becoming an aupair, this experience is about much more than childcare—it's real cultural exchange and personal growth.
